Please join us for our annual toy run, Sunday, December 14th '03. Through the New York Cares' 'Secret Santa' program, we have been paired up with the Resurrection Luthern Church in the Bronx, near Yankee Stadium. We will drop off bagged, but not wrapped toys at the church. The church then distributes them to needy families in the neighborhood (not just church members.) We will meet at Vespa Soho for coffee and donuts at 11:00am, leave at 12 and ride to the Bronx. After dropping off the goodies, we will return to Manhattan for dinner and drinks. We will be arriving at the end of the english services (they are bilingual) so children may still be coming out of the church. That's why we need to have the toys in bags, so they don't get too excited (Mine Mine Mine!) Bagged but not wrapped, this way the parents can figure out what to give to whom...) We also invite anyone who wants to drive a car or truck to join us, (they can help us carry all the toys). The church said that we should bring toys for kids 4-12, and that they had more girls then boys. I think they pick this age range because these are the real Santa fans. If you have a great toy for a teenager, I'm sure they will accept it. And even though they said they had more girls than boys, lets not all buy girl toys. We should buy toys in the $20 to $30 range so that no one kid gets a Playstation and brags about it. However, if you would like to buy more than one toy that would be fine. Also, we are only taking new toys. PLEASE NO USED GIFTS! Do not show up with some ratty old thing, no kid is going to want to get it. Lastly, if you want to buy books, remember this is a bilingual neighborhood.
